Where
Bob Dole Stands on Juvenile Crime
The
United States is Experiencing an Explosion of Juvenile Crime
Just look at the numbers:
- Murder prosecutions of 14-
to 17-year-olds have increased by 172 percent since 1985.
- Since 1985, juvenile
arrests for assault have risen 114 percent; since 1992, they have risen 22
percent.
- Juvenile violent crime
rates have increased 11.8 percent during the Clinton Administration -- and
6.5 percent in just the last year.
- Marijuana use has doubled
among 14- and 15-year-olds since Bill Clinton was elected.
- Since 1992, there has been
a 52 percent increase in the number of high school seniors using drugs.
- 35 percent of all violent
crime is now committed by offenders under 20 years of age.
- Federal officials have
prosecuted only 233 juveniles as adults since Clinton took office --
that's fewer than 2 prosecutions per state per year on average.
- Experts predict the number
of juveniles arrested for violent crimes will double by 2010 -- a new and
dangerous wave of what have been called 'super predators.'
Bob Dole Will Offer Tough Love For
Juvenile Criminals
As President, Bob Dole will reduce the juvenile crime rate by:
- Passing real welfare reform
to rebuild the family, curb illegitimacy and give welfare recipients the
tools they need to work.
- Toughening enforcement of
drug laws, increasing drug interdiction at our borders, and using the
presidency to tell young people that drugs are illegal and dangerous.
- Pushing for mandatory adult
sentencing for juveniles who commit violent crimes.
- Encouraging states to keep violent
juveniles in jail until they serve their time -- with no automatic
releases on their 18th or 20th birthday.
- Preserving the criminal
records of violent juveniles for future review if needed by courts,
schools and law enforcement.
A Better America
With Bob Dole as President, more juveniles will serve adult time for adult
crimes.
More
opportunities. Smaller government. Stronger and safer families
